Why you’ll love this recipe

This eggnog french toast recipe is the perfect festive breakfast to enjoy on Christmas morning. The use of eggnog really takes the flavor of the french toast over the top. I make this every single year and it’s a hit every time.

Sometimes I’ll have too much eggnog for the holidays and it’s a perfect way to use it up. My favorite bread to use is brioche but challah is also a favorite for french toast.

How to make eggnog french toast

Slice brioche bread into thick pieces. The thicker the slices, the better it can hold the custard.

Sliced brioche bread

Whisk the eggs with eggnog, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract.

Eggnog french toast custard

Dip each bread slice into the mixture. Let it get soaked but not too soaked, so a nice custard can form in the middle.

Then cook in a buttered pan until golden brown on both sides.

Serve warm with powdered sugar and maple syrup for the ultimate holiday breakfast.

Recipe Tip

Keep french toast warm while making by putting the oven on low. This way when all the french toast is finished, it will be nice and toasty to eat.

Commonly Asked Questions

Can I use a different bread?

Yes, challah or Texas toast works well too, but brioche takes it to the next level.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the eggnog mixture ahead and refrigerate it. For cooked French toast, reheat it in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.

What sides go well with this dish?

Fresh fruit, crispy bacon, or a dollop of whipped cream would pair beautifully.
