About August

Hi! I’m August. I was born and raised in NYC and still live there. I’m a self taught cook with a passion for food and hospitality. Growing up in NYC and being around so many different cultures has heavily influenced my love for food.

I grew up eating southern food due to my grandmother being from Memphis, TN. She would always let me help her cook. Most of my childhood friends were from backgrounds other than my own, mainly Caribbean. I’d eat at their homes all the time and they would teach me a thing or two.

Food and hospitality are my passion and I own several food businesses here in NYC alongside my husband. One of them being John’s Juice that we started in 2017 and it operates out of Smorgasburg which is NYC’s largest food market. We also cater and are vendors at music festivals as well.

How I started “There’s Food At Home”

In 2020, like most people, I was stuck at home due to the pandemic. My food businesses were shut down temporarily. I had no way of knowing how and when we would reopen. With nothing but time on my hands, I decided to join tiktok and share my love of cooking through posting recipe videos.

My page grew rather quickly and There’s Food At Home was born. I absolutely love sharing my love of food and passion for cooking online. I wanted to showcase that you could make good food at home, without breaking the bank and the joy that cooking can bring.

While my recipe videos have gone viral across platforms, blogging is my real passion. I love having a place to write and communicate with my core audience. I hope you become one of my”homies” and that my recipes bring you some joy.
