Ingredients for Greek tzatziki sauce

  • Cucumber – This gives tzatziki its signature crunch and coolness. I like to squeeze out the water from the cucumber so the sauce won’t be watery.
  • Greek yogurt – Thick and tangy, it’s the base of the sauce and adds creaminess.
  • Olive oil – Adds a bit of richness and smooths out the texture.
  • Garlic – The flavor punch! Tzatziki without garlic is just yogurt dressing.
  • Dill – A traditional herb that makes tzatziki pop with brightness.
  • Mint – Optional, but it brings a refreshing twist.
  • Salt & pepper – Balance and season the whole sauce.
  • Lemon juice – That squeeze of acid lifts everything and ties it together.

Commonly Asked Questions

How long does tzatziki sauce last?

It lasts about 3–4 days in the fridge when stored in an airtight container.

Can I use regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt?

You can, but Greek yogurt gives the sauce that thick, creamy texture. If using regular yogurt, drain it through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer for a few hours first.

What can I serve tzatziki with?

Tzatziki sauce is great on gyros, grilled meats, vegetables, as a dip, on sandwiches and more! Try it with my Greek Turkey Meatballs. Greek turkey meatballs with tzatziki sauce, fresh dill garnish, and a side salad on a black plate.
