This Dole Whip recipe tastes like sunshine in soft serve form. I made this copycat of Disney’s Dole Whip with frozen fresh pineapple, pineapple juice, ice cream, and cream of coconut so it comes out creamy and extra tropical. Serve it in the pineapple boat if you want the full vacation moment, because your girl loves a dessert that comes with its own bowl.

I’ve been to Disney world and land quite a few times but never tried dole whip. That’s until this year, I had a pineapple coconut Dole whip and let me just say it was life changing. How could I have not tried this before? Since I don’t live in Florida or Cali, when I had the craving, I had to get to recipe testing and try to make it at home for myself.

Ingredient Breakdown

  • Fresh Pineapple – Gives the Dole Whip its bold tropical flavor and freezes into the perfect base.
  • Pineapple Juice – Helps the blender move and boosts the pineapple flavor.
  • Vanilla or Coconut Ice Cream – Makes the texture creamy and soft serve-like.
  • Cream of Coconut – Adds sweetness, richness, and that smooth coconut finish.

Helpful Tips

Getting the right consistency. You’ll definitely need a good blender that can really blend well or a food processor. If after blending it’s too thick, add a little more pineapple juice, one splash at a time, until the blender moves smoothly.

The soft serve look. To get the iconic swirl, put the blended mixture in a piping bag and freeze it for about 15 minutes so it firms up, then pipe it into the pineapple boat. It is important that the dole whip is pretty thick when putting into the piping bag, otherwise it will all leak out of the tip. You’ll also need a large to extra large piping tip. I tried using a smaller tip and it didn’t work out well; pineapple chunks can get stuck and it just doesn’t look as pretty.

By August DeWindt
This copycat Dole Whip is creamy and tropical, blended with frozen pineapple, pineapple juice, ice cream, and cream of coconut – served inside a pineapple boat.
Prep: 15 minutes
Cook: 2 minutes
Servings: 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 pineapple
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup vanilla , or coconut ice cream, dairy or non dairy is fine
  • ¼ cup cream of coconut

Instructions

  • Cut the pineapple in half vertically to make two halves. Cut around the pineapples core then the inside of the pineapple vertically and then diagonally as close to the bottom as you can. Be careful not to pierce the skin of the pineapple. Discard the core. Scoop out the pineapple chunks and any remaining pineapple and freeze for 3 hours or overnight.

  • When ready to make the dole whip, remove the pineapple chunks from the freezer. Add the frozen pineapple, pineapple juice, ice cream and cream of coconut to a blender or food processor. Blend on high speed until smooth. You will need to stop every now and again to push down the mixture off the sides of the blender. The consistency should be pretty thick. If it seems too thick, add a splash of pineapple.

  • After 15 minutes squeeze the dole whip into the pineapple, giving it a soft serve appearance. Alternatively you can skip this step and immediately add the dole whip to the pineapple. Serve immediately, eat and enjoy!
