Bacon wrapped asparagus is one of those sides that looks fancy but comes together with barely any effort. The salty bacon crisps up in the oven while the asparagus stays tender and the brown sugar adds just the right touch of sweet. Whether it’s brunch, dinner, or a holiday table this dish will always get eaten up.

Serve this alongside pot roast and mashed potatoes for a delicious meal!

Key Ingredients

  • Asparagus – Trimmed and bundled, it roasts up tender while staying fresh and bright.
  • Olive Oil – Helps the seasoning stick and keeps the asparagus from drying out.
  • Salt & Fresh Cracked Pepper – Brings out flavor and balances the richness of the bacon.
  • Bacon – Crisps around each bundle for that savory, smoky bite.
  • Brown Sugar – Caramelizes over the bacon for a hint of sweetness that takes it over the top.

Tips for making bacon wrapped asparagus

  • Type of bacon – You can use regular bacon or thick cut bacon when making bacon wrapped asparagus. If using regular cut bacon it will crisp up faster. Thick cut bacon will take a bit longer to cook and get crispy.
  • Bake on a rack- I strongly suggest using a baking rack on a baking sheet. Using a baking rack will help the bacon and asparagus get crispy all over. It allows the asparagus not to get soggy as it won’t be cooking in the bacon grease.
  • Be careful when broiling – The broiler works FAST, so you will have to as well. Things can go left quickly when broiling, so keep an eye on it. We don’t want burnt wrapped asparagus haha.

Commonly Asked Questions

Do I need to use a rack for baking?

Nope. A baking sheet works just fine, just drain any excess grease if needed.

Can I prep these ahead of time?

Yes! Assemble the bundles, refrigerate covered, and bake when ready. Add the brown sugar right before baking.

What’s the best way to keep the bacon from unraveling?

Place the bundles seam-side down or secure with a toothpick if needed.

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

By August DeWindt
This bacon wrapped asparagus recipe is ridiculously easy to make but will seem like you put in a lot of effort. The bundles are roasted with olive oil, cracked pepper and a touch of brown sugar.
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 20 minutes
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch Asparagus, cleaned, ends trimmed, about 15 stalks
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices Bacon
  • 1/2 tbsp Brown sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Put cleaned & trimmed asparagus in a bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt & pepper to taste. Separate asparagus into 4 bunches.

  • Wrap a slice of bacon around each bunch of asparagus. Place on a baking sheet with a rack underneath, seam side down.

  • Add some pepper to the bacon and brown sugar, not too much brown sugar on each bundle, approximately 1/4 teaspoon.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, flip and bake an additional 5-8 minutes. For crispiness, broil for 1 minute, but watch this because every broiler is different and may cook faster, you don’t want it to burn!

  • Serve as an appetizer or a side dish. Eat & enjoy!

Notes

You can easily make more bunches if needed. Just get more asparagus and bacon.
